Professor Dieter Gloeck, Executive President of SAIGA and Chairperson of the Award Committee praised the high scoring departments and pointed to the overall sustained improvement in adherence to reporting standards since the inception of the awards three years ago. This bodes well for increased transparency and public accountability. He congratulated the Free State Department of Health for setting an example to other departments in the country. He also pointed out that the score of 94.18% achieved by the winning department is the highest score that any department ever scored in the three years of the competition.
During his speech, Dr. Arrie Schoonwinkel, Chief Financial Officer of the winning department stated that the production of a high quality report was indeed a team effort and thanked all involved in the preparation of the annual report
The Free State Department of Health received two certificates. One gold frames certificate for the best annual report in the Free State and a platinum framed certificate for the overall winner. Celebration time: A just reward for a great achievement
The Department of Environmental Affairs & Tourism (DEAT) achieved a unique accomplishment: The DEAT is the winner in the category: national departments, also took overall second place and was ranked second most consistent department over three years. Not just pretty pictures: This high quality annual report by the DEAT achieved the highest marks (93.28%) of any national department in South Africa. It was also judged overall second best.
Another winning department: The Department of Trade and Industry consistently publishes reports of high standard. It was judged the most consistent highest department in the three years of the SAIGA Reporting Awards. Another proud winner: Not only did the Department of Health in the Free State win the overall prize, but it’s sister departments in other provinces also performed exceptional. The Department of Health in the Western Cape achieved an overall score of 93.13%, winning the category for best report in the Western Cape.

Setting an example in the province: The winner in the Eastern Cape was the Provincial Treasury with an impressive score of 91.64% The full management team of the Provincial Treasury celebrated the Award.
