Photo Gallery : 2013 Reporting Awards On 30 September 2013 a function was held at Elsenburg near Stellenbosch, headquarters of the Department of Agriculture, to celebrate the release of the 2013 SAIGA Reporting Awards. The Department of Agriculture was the winner of a number of awards categories and also broke some previous records relating to the Awards. The Department of Agriculture’s headquarters are set in the beautiful surroundings of the Western Cape and the views from the Department’s offices are stunning as the following pictures show: The function, amongst others, served to heighten the awareness with regard to the process of preparing annual financial statements. The Department of Agriculture is no stranger to winning Awards (they became the first department in the history of the Awards who won three times. In the foyer of the departmental offices in Elsenburg, the many trophies and awards of the Department of Agriculture are proudly displayed on a “Wall of Fame”. Annual Public Sector Reporting Awards Function to hand the Award trophy and certificates to the winner of the category National departments: The Department of Labour. During a gala dinner at the Irene Country Lodge, Centurion, Pretoria on 17 October 2013 the Department of Labour celebrated their achievement of being the winners in the category national departments. SAIGA Council Member and Secretary of the Institute, Prof Herman de Jager, provided some background to the SAIGA Reporting Awards and highlighted some unique achievements in this year’s competition. The Executive President of SAIGA, Prof Dieter Gloeck stressed the importance of the Public Finance Management Act before announcing the winners of this year’s Annual Public Sector Reporting Awards

In his acceptance speech the Minister of Agriculture (Western Cape) explained the important roles that Agriculture as a sector plays in the South African economy. He drew attention to specific initiatives by the Department of Agriculture and also praised the various role players who produced the winning annual report.
Proof of the relevance of the work of Agriculture students at Elsenburg, the Headquarters of the Department: A high quality wine aptly named “Elsenburg” produced by the Department’s own students was offered on the tables.
The Accounting Officer of the Department of Agriculture, Ms Joyene Isaacs, stressed the importance of consistency and stability in a department’s staff component and also recognised the team effort it takes to prepare a “winning” set of annual financial statements.
