At the time when the world is facing Coronavirus pandemic and South Africa is on national lockdown, Mr Mathithela Russel Morena was appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer for the Southern African Institute of Government Auditors (SAIGA). Due to the changing nature of work which is influenced by the new way of living that requires one to be safe from the pandemic, there is a high demand for innovative leadership and psychological readiness for a leader to drive positive change within an organisation. Regardless of the challenging impact of COVID- 19 within the professional bodies, Mr Morena’s first 100 days in office were dominated by positive changes at SAIGA.
Through his leadership as the Institute’s Chief Executive, SAIGA registered a training academy. The Public Sector Accountancy and Audit Academy (PSAAA) was established in order to enhance and advance the quality of education and training within the public sector environment. Due to this strategic move, SAIGA had expanded its internal capacity and moved offices to a much bigger space to accommodate its new entity.
During his 100 days in office, Mr Morena contributed massively to strengthening the internal capacity of the Institute, including filling key senior roles such of the Education Training and Development (ETD) Manager and Financial Accountant.
100 days may seem like a short period of time for a Chief Executive to make a significant impact in an organisation, and the unprecedented nature of work that has been brought by the breakout of Coronavirus pandemic had its own challenges. Regardless, SAIGA CEO Mr Morena managed to drive the implementation of the Institute’s new strategic direction. As a result, SAIGA has celebrated great moves in the last 100 days.
The Institute is currently undergoing repositioning and rebranding to be announced to the public before the end of this year.
